The deadline for responding to the Government’s consultation on the Statutory Register of Lobbyists is rapidly approaching. The objective of the consultation is to give the chance for all interested parties to respond to the policy thinking behind the establishment of a Statutory Register of Lobbyists.
It is not yet clear what the full impact of a register will be for associations, but it is apparent that the Government are taking the role of lobbyists seriously and want to increase the levels of transparency in the policy making process.
The consultation paper sets out; its remit, definitions, information to be included in the register, how often updates should be made, potential sanctions for non compliance and the funding model. The consultation will run for a total of 12 weeks and it started on 20 January 2012. The Government will consider all responses received by 13 April 2012 – so respond ASAP to have your voice heard.
